Please Support Children of Hoarders

COH LogoFor many of us, ChildrenOfHoarders.com and its Yahoo! group were the first places where we found people who understand what it feels like to be a child of a hoarder. These were the first places we found out that we weren’t alone. Since 2006, these resources have been moderated by a team of volunteers, coordinated and supported by Children of Hoarders, Inc.

As interest in hoarding and its impact on individuals and communities continues to grow, we’ve heard from many people that we need to do more for children of hoarders.

It’s time for Children of Hoarders, Inc. to take its next big step. Would you like to:

  • See better support for COHs, online and in person?
  • Increase awareness of the impact of hoarding on children, families and communities?
  • Provide educational tools and programs for COHs and for people who might help COHs?
  • Create stronger relationships between the COH community and professionals, such as clinicians, organizers, and others?
  • Stand up for public policies that do a better job of addressing the needs of children of hoarders?

All of these things are possible, but we need your help to make them happen.

As a grassroots, all volunteer organization, most of the expenses of Children of Hoarders, Inc. have been paid directly by a small number of volunteers. To move to a more sustainable model, we’re launching our first official fundraising campaign. We’ve set a goal to raise $2,500 to cover the costs of maintaining and improving the ChildrenOfHoarders.com website, of creating a better directory of support groups and resources, to create educational brochures, to cover legal and accounting expenses, including official recognition by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charity, and more.

These steps will make it easier to get the word out, to provide better, more personalized support, and to begin supporting research into the unique needs and experiences of COHs.
